• Do you need to study? Are you desperate to complete your studies and move on in life?

  • Do you get overwhelmed in the sea of fog?

  • Do you get sucked into the vortex of overwhelm?

This blog will provide you with some simple and easy to implement tools to help you focus. Please note that these tools are just a few in my arsenal. There are many more simple tools that when you implement them, will quickly help you to focus on your studies and complete them successfully.

Do you have the best of intentions yet when you sit down to study but you find yourself getting caught up in your inner dialogue?

And it is not positive…

Does your inner critic, (read inner enemy) sabotage your best efforts at getting cracking?  Do you find yourself criticizing yourself to the point that you become paralyzed to inaction? Studies have found that as humans we are wired to naturally focus on the negative. For many of my clients, this is magnified. My clients can easily rattle off endless lists of their mistakes and, well, clutter, but find it really difficult to relate their successes.

If you find yourself nodding along please understand that the very first step to staying focused and being able to learn is of course to banish your inner critic and replace it with your inner friend. Yes you can become your best support and friend, if you only started to talk to yourself in positive language.

Imagine your friend was complaining to you about how much she had to study. You would most probably find it very easy to comfort and reassure her. Why oh why is it so very difficult if not impossible to comfort yourself? Why do you keep beating yourself up about how much there is to study, how  much you haven’t studied, how much time you have wasted and how much your friends have managed t ostudy, to the point that you can’t even focus on your studies, and you give up?

This then becomes a terribly vicious negative spiral.

Make the time to focus on and celebrate your study achievements, no matter how small and insignificant.   If you have managed to part with even one small item successfully, focus on this, tell your friends, celebrate your achievements. This will be hard to do at first, but with perseverance it will get much easier. This will keep you motivated to carry on further.

Your success (and failures) can only be blamed on yourself. Start to take responsibility for yourself.

More information on how to banish your inner critic and start to become your own best friend, in my second book, “Own Your ADHD – Discover Your True Potential.”

You have so much to study. Where do you start? You so desperately want to succeed, but you are clueless how to get yourself motivated to start!

You may be tempted to take a large bite into your studies and tackle a really difficult topic. Please understand that if you do so, then you are doomed to failure. Being able to focus on your studies is a skill just like any other.  Start with small steps.  Then build up.  Start with only studying for small chunks of time, such as 15 minutes. Set small and easy goals for yourself. Start with studying a topic that you find easy . Create small successes, then focus on your big goal.

When studying gets boring, and overwhelming you may find yourself getting discouraged and giving up.

It is scientifically proven that when you listen to inspiring music while you study this will help you to stay motivated. Be aware that when you listen to music with words, your conscious brain has to work double as hard. It has to filter out the words, and then help you concentrate on the task at hand. Try listening to music without lyrics to improve your focus.
